The most common side effects of taking sertraline are nausea, diarrhea, dry mouth, fatigue, and insomnia. Less common side effects include sexual dysfunction, anxiety, and agitation.

Alcohol should be avoided while taking sertraline or any antidepressant. Regular alcohol consumption can decrease the effectiveness of sertraline.
